The Coast Guard Foundation’s spouse grant and scholarship program has invested in education and professional training for 11 years, and in that time, awarded more than $670,000 in grants.

This year, 177 Coast Guard spouses received grants and are enrolled in degree-seeking programs and professional certification activities with the support of the Coast Guard Foundation and our generous donors.

The opportunity to earn a college degree and professional certification is critical for Coast Guard spouses who need to contribute to their household income. With a degree and technical training, they can increase their employment prospects and provide for their family’s financial health.

“This program is increasingly important to Coast Guard spouses,” shared Susan Ludwig, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “Together, we have provided resources they need to take care of their families and strengthen their personal well-being.”

Our Coast Guard spouses give back to their communities with the work they do. Close to 50% of this year’s grant recipients are studying to become nurses, training for professions in oral/dental health, or serve other healthcare roles. Coast Guard spouses continue to be active across all industries, with many teachers, business management professionals, and scientists among them.

Delta Dental Partnership: Through the generosity of Delta Dental, we awarded ten $2,000 grants to Coast Guard spouses enrolled in dental and healthcare programs. With added labs and clinical duties, the upfront cost of a degree can be a stretch for those on this career track.

“I want to express my sincerest gratitude to the Coast Guard Foundation and Delta Dental for this incredible award. This grant will afford me the opportunity to continue with my goal of becoming a nurse without causing a financial burden to my family. I will be able to fully focus on what is important, and for that, I will be forever grateful. Thank you again for your generosity.” --Kim Andres, Florida.

Coast Guard Foundation Spouse Grants: A well-paying job can be an essential step to financial stability for a family. To support that goal, we awarded 167 grants this year, so Coast Guard spouses have the financial resources they need to pursue higher education and develop professional skills.

“Thank you so much to the Coast Guard Foundation for awarding me this grant. Continuing my education is a top priority in my life, only second to my family. This grant is helping me obtain a future in health care and helping serve and care for my community no matter where the Coast Guard may send us. Thank you!” Annette Suarez, Alabama.
