Air Station Savannah Run to Remember
This Run to Remember honors Georgia Low Country native James Caines, who lost his life executing a Coast Guard search and rescue mission in the HH-65A helicopter 6549 on June 8,1997 out of Air Station Humboldt Bay. The mission marked James’s first mission since completing the rigorous rescue swimmer qualification two days prior to the accident. James embodied the Coast Guard’s core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. The Air Station Savannah’s hanger is named in honor of the ultimate sacrifice he made in service of his country.
