Now Offering: Individualized Captain’s License Training Online
New Pilot Program to Serve Coast Guard Members in Washington State
Update, 9/17/21: This online training opportunity is now closed.
Coast Guard members living and serving in Washington State are now eligible for a new program we are piloting to provide workforce development training. Through the “Captain in a Box” course through Mariners Learning System, eligible active duty Coast Guard members and active duty reservists can enroll in a self-paced online course that will earn the Coast Guard member an OUPV/Six-pack Captain’s License with a 100-ton master and towing endorsement. Each participant will receive digital study materials, plus hardcopy study guides and a navigator’s tool set in the mail to accompany their studies.
Eligibility: This training opportunity is offered to active Coast Guard members and active duty reservists stationed in a Coast Guard unit in Washington State. The Coast Guard member must be one of the following: Coxswain, Boatswains Mate, Boat Crew Engineer MK or an Officer of the Deck with 100 hours of on deck experience. We will consider applications on a rolling deadline. Completing an application does not guarantee enrollment in the online course. Eligibility will be verified by the Coast Guard Unit's Officer in Charge.
Please direct questions to Coast Guard Foundation Program Manager Ms. Sage Williams.
The Coast Guard Foundation has invested in workforce development programs that help Coast Guard members earn their Captain’s Licenses since 2017. With the challenges of group gathering during the global pandemic, we have added this online course opportunity on a limited basis. It’s our intent to continue in-person live instruction when possible and offer these online classes as an option.
