Golfing for Coast Guard Families
The Coast Guard Foundation’s two annual scholarship golf tournaments were held in May raising much needed funding for our Children’s Scholarship program. This program provides college and technical school scholarships for the children of active-duty, active-reserve, and retired Coast Guard members.
The NY/NJ Scholarship Golf Tournament was held May 6 at Staten Island’s South Shore Golf Course. Local maritime and business leaders as well as Coast Guard members from Sector New York participated. The lead sponsor was McAllister Towing. Through the support of all sponsors and participants, the event raised $44,000 this year and more than $427,000 in the last 13 years.
The 30th Annual Washington DC Scholarship Golf Tournament was held on May 20 at the Army-Navy Country Club in Fairfax, Virginia. Thirty-two foursomes from a wide array of generous donors, including lead sponsor Lockheed Martin, helped raise more than $142,000. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Linda Fagan welcomed the golfers and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Heath Jones helped preside over the awards luncheon. The tournament has raised nearly $4 million since its inception.
The Coast Guard Foundation is grateful to all who contributed to the success of these tournaments. With your help, we have awarded more than 2,200 scholarships to Coast Guard children since our scholarship program began in 1990, helping Coast Guard children achieve their dreams of higher education while reducing student loan debt.
