Disaster Relief Delivered to Coast Guard Families Impacted by Housing Fire
Coast Guard Foundation resources were deployed to assist eight displaced families within hours of the November 4 blaze that swept through a housing unit at Coast Guard Sector New York.
Immediately, $500 grants were distributed to each Coast Guard member, to cover essential living supplies and clothing needs. Within a week, families assessed their property damage and received grants from the Coast Guard Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund for replacement and repair of their personal belongings and household goods. The Foundation disbursed an additional $12,000 through this program element.
The Coast Guard Foundation's Disaster Relief program is administered through a partnership with the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association.
We are grateful that no one was hurt in this fire, and we are thankful for the close coordination with Sector New York leadership and the Chief Petty Officers Association. Having the ability to identify immediate needs and provide care and comfort for impacted Coast Guard families is our top priority in delivering support.
The Coast Guard Foundation team will continue to track those impacted by the fire, and identify additional response needed for those stationed at Sector New York, including morale and wellness support.
