Coast Guard Foundation Delivers Support to the Mighty Mac in Chicago
At the annual Christmas Tree Ship event in Chicago earlier this month, Coast Guard Foundation president Susan Ludwig had an opportunity to present the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter MACKINAW with a gift of $5,000 for its crew’s morale and wellness initiatives.
This annual tradition brings so much joy and holiday spirit to the entire community, and this support for the Mackinaw crew is our way of saying 'thank you' for all they do for Chicago, the Great Lakes, and our Nation.
The MACKINAW delivers Christmas trees from northern Michigan to Chicago every year and, together with its predecessor, has delivered more than 25,000 Christmas trees to Chicago families in the past 20 years.
Chicago’s Christmas Ship was founded in 2000 by a group of mariners, recreational boaters and retired military members. The organization’s goal is to provide Christmas trees to deserving families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to have a Christmas tree.
