Emergency and Disaster Relief
When natural disasters strike, Coast Guard members are often called to serve others even as their own families may be facing damage, displacement, and loss at home. The Coast Guard Foundation provides emergency and disaster relief to help members and their loved ones navigate these moments with immediate, practical support.
Relief grants help families recover from floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and other disasters that create sudden financial strain. This support can help cover urgent needs such as temporary housing, insurance deductibles, home repairs, and replacing essential household goods.
The need for this assistance varies each year. In 2025, the Foundation provided $40,000 through 17 grants to Coast Guard families affected by flooding and wildfires in places including Juneau, the Pacific Northwest, and California.
In 2024, however, the need reached record levels. Following disasters including Hurricane Beryl, the Juneau glacial dam burst, Tropical Cyclone 8, and multiple major Florida storms, the Foundation provided more than $1.3 million in emergency relief grants to 610 Coast Guard members and their families.
By responding quickly in both large-scale and localized disasters, the Coast Guard Foundation helps families recover with greater stability and peace of mind — and ensures they are never facing hardship alone.
Grants helped cover urgent needs such as insurance deductibles, temporary housing, home repairs, and replacing personal belongings after hurricanes, floods, and wildfires damaged homes and communities.
“Thank you so much, Coast Guard Foundation. It truly means a lot to my wife and me... I’m just glad that we are both safe.”
