James J. Coleman, Jr.

Spirit Of Hope Jimmy Coleman
March 23, 2019

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of James J. Coleman, Jr., Coast Guard Foundation Director since 1997. Mr. Coleman passed away on March 21 at his home in New Orleans.

Suffice it to say, this is a great loss for the Coast Guard Foundation and all who knew and loved Jimmy. A consummate gentleman, he led quietly and by example, and his generosity with our organization, and the Coast Guard Museum Association, and countless other organizations in New Orleans, Newport and many other places, was unparalleled.

He was a strong supporter of all our program impact areas, from morale to capital projects, to the Academy’s sailing program, to scholarships and grants, disaster relief and our accelerated growth program.

The Coast Guard Foundation honored Jimmy in 2014 with a special award at our Salute to the Coast Guard in New York City.

Jimmy was recognized by the United States Coast Guard with its Spirit of Hope Award in 2013.

As we go through our photo archives, we’re assembling this online album with some of our great memories of our time together over the last two-plus decades.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, Mr. Coleman. You'll be missed.
