The Coast Guard Marathon presented its inaugural in-person 5K road race on March 4 and a half and full marathon on March 5, 2022. More than 1,400 runners traveled to Elizabeth City, North Carolina and participated in the three events, and more than 1,700 registered to run virtual races across the country in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Washington, Guam, and 11 countries abroad.

The Coast Guard Foundation participated in the marathon expo and race-day events to encourage participants, share the organization’s mission, and promote our Run to Remember program.

Recently, the Coast Guard Foundation received a charitable donation from the Coast Guard Marathon to support morale and wellness initiatives for Coast Guard members and their families.

Corrina Ruffieux, Coast Guard Marathon Race Director and Tiffany Ly, Coast Guard Marathon Event Specialist, presented the contribution to the Coast Guard Foundation at its annual Tribute to the Coast Guard in our Nation’s Capital on June 7, 2022.

“We are infinitely grateful for this generous gift from the Coast Guard Marathon,” said Susan Ludwig, Coast Guard Foundation President. “The entire event weekend was expertly produced and filled with affection and appreciation for the service. It was our honor to attend and cheer on the runners and raise awareness for the Coast Guard Foundation.”

“This event was a labor of love from conception to post-race celebration,” said Ruffieux. “Elizabeth City’s affinity for the Coast Guard and coastal location make our Harbor of Hospitality® the perfect location for this legacy event. We’re looking forward to 2023 and continued support of our local base and the greater Coast Guard community.”

Elizabeth City is an official Coast Guard City and is also honored to be the home of the first sanctioned Coast Guard Marathon. The race was created in collaboration with Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City and even featured an on-base portion of the race route highlighting the air station. Plans for the 2023 marathon events are in progress, and details will be announced soon. For more information, visit CoastGuardMarathon.com.
