Mental Resiliency
Mental resilience is essential to the health and readiness of the Coast Guard community. Long hours, stressful assignments, time away from loved ones, and service in isolated locations can all affect emotional well-being. The Coast Guard Foundation supports programs that help members and families build resilience, strengthen relationships, and stay connected during challenging times.
In partnership with the Coast Guard Chaplain’s Office, the Foundation funds chaplain-led programs across the country that focus on suicide prevention, marriage enrichment, spiritual fitness, and unit-based resilience experiences. These efforts create opportunities for reflection, support, and human connection at the places where Coast Guard families live and serve.
The Foundation also supports broader prevention efforts, including the Resilience Coordinator Unit Education Training program, which equips the service with tools and education around stress management, sleep, nutrition, behavioral health, and suicide prevention.
In 2025, the Foundation funded 58 chaplain-led programs that reached more than 7,100 Coast Guard members and family members. From the Illuminating the Darkness Walk at Fort Meade to morale support during the 2025 government shutdown, these programs helped reinforce connection, well-being, and community across the service.
By investing in mental resiliency, the Foundation helps ensure Coast Guard members and families have the support they need to stay healthy, connected, and ready.
What could have been a difficult and isolating season became a moment of connection, relief, and community — a reminder that morale support can have a real impact on mental well-being.
