Scholarship Guide

General Information for All Scholarship Opportunities

The Coast Guard Foundation scholarship program is soliciting applications for the 2010-2011 Academic School Year. These Foundation scholarships are made possible by the following benefactor organizations for the 2010 scholarship open season: the Arnold Sobel Endowment Fund, the Daniel J. Christovich Scholarship Fund, the Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship Fund, and the Commander Ronald J. Cantin Scholarship Fund. Major considerations for the selection of awardees include scholastic promise, motivation, moral character, leadership qualities, and good citizenship for all Foundation scholarships.

Scholarships for Enlisted Personnel

Enlisted Education Grant: This grant program is open to active duty enlisted personnel in pay grades E-3 to E-9 with two or more years of Coast Guard service. This grant may be used in conjunction with the Coast Guard Tuition Assistance Program (i.e. to pay the member’s 25% of the course cost), or other non-funded relevant education items. The Vander Putten Family Scholarship Fund provides grants of up to $500 a year for text books and miscellaneous educational expenses for active duty members E-3 to E-9 and reserve members E-3 to E-9 currently serving on active duty orders of at least one year. Since 2001, the Fund has provided $75,000 in grants to 65 service men and women. For more information, please contact The Coast Guard Institute at (405) 954-7240 or via their website.
 
Keiser University Coast Guard Scholarship: Candidates for this scholarship must meet Keiser University admission criteria and Coast Guard eligibility requirements as follows: Verification of high school graduation or GED completion and an entrance exam (SAT or ACT, for example). Coast Guard requirements include: a minimum of four years in the Coast Guard, second tour of duty, demonstrated leadership skill, an essay and a recommendation from his or her Commanding Officer. On-going requirements must also be met to remain in good standing. The Paul Resnick and Bruce Donnelly Scholarship: Candidates for this scholarship must be enrolled at Cornell University and have a demonstrated financial need.  First preference will be given to students who have served in the U.S. Coast Guard or who are dependents of a former or current member of the U.S. Coast Guard.  For more information, please contact  Jennifer L. Scholarships for Reservists and their Dependents

USAA Family Reserve Enlisted Scholarship: This program is made possible through a gift from the United Services Automobile Association (USAA), an insurance and financial services institution. Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Ready Reserve and their dependents are eligible to apply. The scholarship can be applied to tuition, fees, books and school supplies. While funding for the program varies from year to year, recent awards have been six $1,000 scholarships. Details of the program, including the application process, award amounts and points of contact, are announced each year via the Coast Guard Message traffic. Scholarships for Dependents

Fallen Heroes Scholarship benefits families of Coast Guard personnel who die in the line of duty. This is the first fund established for supporting the higher education needs of families whose loved one makes the ultimate sacrifice.  Students applying to and currently attending college are eligible to apply.  Interested parties should contact Mrs. Yvette Wright at (202) 475-5159 or via email.   The Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund was established by John and Delinda Statts in memory of John’s parents, Captain Frederick Statts and his wife, Sara.

RADM Arnold I. Sobel Scholarship AND the Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship benefits dependent children of enlisted men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard on active duty, retired or deceased, and dependent children of enlisted personnel in the Coast Guard Reserve currently on extended active duty 180 days or more. Commander Ronald J. Captain Ernest Fox Perpetual Scholarship benefits employees of ALC (Aviation Logistics Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina; active duty, federal civil service and their dependents).
