When a family or Coast Guard unit is faced with the unthinkable, the Foundation steps in and provides immediate financial relief, whether it's a care package, or paying for an airline ticket for a family member to attend her loved one's memorial service. Coast Guard Response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
The Coast Guard Foundation held its 8th Annual Guardian of the Heartland awards dinner in New Orleans in April celebrating the heroic efforts of those who participated in the harrowing rescue events following the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. The Guardian of the Heartland Dinner is an annual event during which the Foundation recognizes exceptional performance of duty within the 8th Coast Guard District.
