Coast Guard Foundation Thanks L-3 Communications

As a non-profit, the Coast Guard Foundation relies on the generosity of corporations, foundations, individuals and groups to fund the many programs and projects we provide that support the men and women of the Coast Guard and their families. One such company, L-3 Communications, has supported the Foundation for many years in many capacities, funding projects around the country which support enlisted members and their families, as well as programs at the Coast Guard Academy that benefit the future officer corp.

Michael T. StrianeseL-3's support began in 2002, and has steadily grown over the years under the leadership of chairman, president and CEO Michael T. Strianese.

"L-3 has long supported philanthropic efforts that support service members and their families and promote education and learning," said Coast Guard Foundation Trustee, VADM William D. Sullivan, USN (Ret.), L-3's Vice President of Maritime Programs. "In recent years, under the leadership of Mike Strianese, L-3 has supported the Coast Guard Foundation in sponsoring fleet dedication and ship commissioning ceremonies as well as continuing to actively participate in Coast Guard Foundation dinners which raise much-needed funds for the benefit of Coast Guard personnel. L-3 supports the Coast Guard Foundation as a way to enhance the lives of the brave men and women serving our country day in and day out."

In 2004, then-chairman and CEO of the company, Frank Lanza, chaired the Foundation's Annual Salute to the Coast Guard in New York City, one of the most successful dinners in the Foundation's history. In recent years, L-3 has supported many Foundation events, including our Washington, D.C. scholarship golf tournament and the Tribute to the Coast Guard in Our Nation's Capital, as well as a reception in Philadelphia for the cutter barque Eagle, and awards dinners in New Orleans, Boston, New York City and St. Petersburg.

These events serve as a way for the Foundation and our supporters to highlight the great work the men and women of the Coast Guard do, and to recognize extraordinary acts of heroism they perform in the line of duty. Foundation events also raise important funds to support those who wear the Coast Guard uniforms, providing scholarships to children of enlisted personnel, morale and wellness projects for units, bases and cutters around the country, and relief to families who are struck by tragedies.

"Our events program shines a light on the incredible actions of the men and women of the Coast Guard. These individuals never seek the spotlight, but they deserve it," Foundation President Anne B. Brengle said. "L-3 Communications, and our other event sponsors, help us bring attention to the great work the Coast Guard does. We're proud to count them as one of our most generous supporters."
