The Coast Guard Foundation is mourning the loss of one of our long-time Trustees, Captain Henry Keene, Jr., USCG (Ret.), who passed away at his Ketchikan, Alaska home Oct. 5.
Captain Keene was a fixture at Foundation board meetings and awards dinners, and a proud advocate of his adopted home state of Alaska. Captain Keene joined the board in 1994 and served with distinction until his death.
He entered the Coast Guard in 1941 and served aboard SEBAGO in 1949 as a Lieutenant. He also served aboard Cutter BIBB, was commanding officer of the Cutter CHINCOTEAGUE, and commanding officer of Base Ketchikan, from which he retired in 1967.
Captain Keene was an institution in his hometown of Ketchikan, where he served as an attorney and Alaska Superior Court judge following his career in the Coast Guard. Captain is survived by a daughter and son. He was honored with a 21-gun salute at a memorial service.
