Next week, we will honor heroism in the Coast Guard in Florida at our annual Tribute to the 7th District in St. Petersburg on Nov. 2. The tribute will honor the crew of the newly commissioned Coast Guard cutter William C. Flores. On Saturday, Nov. 3, there will be a special commissioning ceremony of the new fast-response cutter. Join us in honoring Coast Guard heroes in Florida.

In late October, Shane Williams, an aviation technician stationed at Air Station Sacramento, embarked on a bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway, riding 400 miles in five days, to raise more than $1,000 in support of the memorial to CG-6535, a Coast Guard helicopter crew that was lost earlier this year in Mobile, Alabama.

The Coast Guard Foundation is proud to announce that the 2012 Coast Guard Foundation Award for Heroism will be presented to Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, for its rescue of the crews of the fishing vessels Heritage and Kimberly. The award will be presented at the 32nd Annual Salute to the Coast Guard in New York City on October 11.

The Coast Guard Foundation was named the 2012 Newport International Boat Show's official charitable partner. The boat show generously donated a portion of the proceeds of Sunday ticket sales, which resulted in a $1,000 donation to the Foundation. The parternership between the Foundation and the Boat Show is a perfect fit, since it is boaters and sailors who depend upon members of the U. S. Coast Guard every day.

On August 8, the Coast Guard Foundation honored the heroic efforts of three Coast Guard air crews that saved the lives of four men adrift in frigid waters for three days at our Alaska Awards Dinner in Anchorage. The crews awarded were CG-1709, CG-1790, and CG-6010, two search planes and rescue helicopter.

We are pleased to announce, two months into our fundraising campaign for the Fallen Heroes Scholarship program, we have raised more than $62,000. The campaign was boosted by a generous $20,000 matching gift from a Coast Guard Foundation donor.
Now that we've seen such great results that same donor has agreed to match the entire amount raised so far! Needless to say, we're very grateful for this wonderful gift, and we need to thank all of the individuals who made this campaign such a success.

The Coast Guard Foundation is proud to announce that it has been chosen as the charitable partner for the 42nd Annual Newport International Boat Show, which takes place September 13 – 16 in Newport, Rhode Island. Being the boat show's charitable partner means that a portion of ticket sales from Sunday, September 16 will be donated to the Coast Guard Foundation.

TriWest Healtcare Alliance, the provider of military personnel health services, announced that it raised $75,000 to support military nonprofits with its "Go Green & Give" campaign. For every person who opted into TriWest's paperless notification system, the company promised to donate $5 to four military charities, one of which was the Coast Guard Foundation.

USCG Moms, a Facebook group of all volunteers, raises money to pay for travel expenses for other moms to attend graduation from boot camp. For Karin Valentine, who is active in the USCG Moms Facebook group, her daughter's graduation ceremony was a moving experience, and she thought that every proud mom should be able to see her child make that rite of passage, regardless of money.
