Girl Scouts of Connecticut Donate Cookies to Coast Guard Foundation

On May 14, Girl Scouts of Connecticut made a donation of 5,769 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to the Coast Guard Foundation based in Stonington. The Coast Guard Foundation loaded cookies onto four vehicles, with one headed towards New York and Staten Island, another throughout the southern New England coast line, a third one to the Coast Guard Academy, the International Ice Patrol, and the Coast Guard Research and Development Center, and a fourth batch to units in the Boston area.

They will return to collect more cookies to send overseas to places like Guantanamo Bay and Afghanistan. Girl Scouts of Connecticut is delivering the more than 130,000 boxes of cookies that were purchased this season for the Cookies for Heroes Gift of Caring program to additional armed services.

YN2 April Mayas and YN3 Alex Ruiz from Sector NY, OSC Kathy Gallivan from Coast Guard Base Boston load Girl Scout cookies for distribution.

The Cookies for Heroes program enabled customers to purchase Girl Scout Cookies from their local Girl Scout, and Girl Scouts of Connecticut, along with community partners, are currently delivering those cookies to service women and men overseas and at home.

"We are so proud to be able to support our service women and men who are serving our country right here at home as well as overseas," said Mary Barneby, CEO, Girl Scouts of Connecticut. "We are also proud to support our veterans who are the recipients of these treats. This program is a great way to bring a smile to the facts of those who give so much in keeping our country safe for all of us. It's our way of saying thank you!"

"We are very grateful to the Girl Scouts of Connecticut for their 'Cookies for Heroes' gift to the Coast Guard," said Anne B. Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation. "The Coast Guard Foundation tries to add a little sweetness to the lives of deserving men and women of the Coast Guard any chance we get."
