Coast Guard men and women providing disaster relief efforts in Haiti.
The first organization on the ground following the devastating
earthquake, the Coast Guard continues to provide humanitarian relief to
those affected.

The Coast Guard Foundation scholarship program is soliciting applications for the 2010-2011 academic school year. These Foundation scholarships are made possible by the following benefactor organizations for the 2010 scholarship open season: the Arnold Sobel Endowment Fund, the Daniel J. Christovich Scholarship Fund, the Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship Fund, and the Commander Ronald J. Cantin Scholarship Fund.
Major considerations for the selection of awardees include scholastic promise, motivation, moral character, leadership qualities, and good citizenship for all Foundation scholarships.

United States Coast Guard in Haiti

The United States Coast Guard continues to take an active role in the
humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti. As an organization that
witnesses what the men and women of this service do on a daily basis,

It is with great sadness that we report our dear friend and board
member, Max Solomon II, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2010. Max
began his service on the Coast Guard Foundation’s Board of Director’s
on January 1, 2000 and was re-elected to another consecutive 3-year
term in November, 2009. During his tenure on the Board Max served on
the Executive Committee and provided strong leadership and direction
for the Foundation.

Honored for lifetime gifts exceeding two million dollars, the Foundation presented the award to Fred P. Moosally, Coast Guard Foundation trustee and president of Lockheed Martin’s Maritime Systems and Sensors (MS2) business unit, at the company’s Washington, D.C. offices.

An effort to honor the Coast Guard members lost in the C-130 plane
crash in October of this year is underway; Ryan White, a USCG Academy
graduate and current lieutenant in the Coast Guard, has developed this
innovative program to raise funds for the Coast Guard Foundation’s

families, announced today that its 16th Annual Tribute to the United
States Coast Guard’s (USCG) Seventh District will take place on
Thursday, November 12, 2009.
The event will honor the valiant work performed by all men and women of the Coast Guard’s Seventh District over the past year; awards will be presented recognizing exceptional and heroic performances of duty. In addition to celebrating the service of our guardians who enforce maritime law, protect our homeland and preserve the environment, the tribute will raise funds to support the Coast Guard Foundation’s important projects and programs. These initiatives seek to improve the lives and performance of Coast Guard members, their families and Coast Guard Academy cadets, including college scholarships for children, as well as grants for enlisted members.

Coast Guard Foundation Re-Activates Disaster Relief Fund Following Airplane Tragedy

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that it has re-activated its emergency Family Disaster Relief Fund in response to last Thursday’s C-130 crash off the California coast.
The Coast Guard Foundation is asking for financial support to assist the families of the lost crew of CG-1705. The Family Disaster Relief Fund was established in September 2008 in the wake of the helicopter crash in Hawaii that resulted in the loss of 4 Coast Guard members.

Last September the Coast Guard family suffered a tremendous loss. In a terrible tragedy off the coast of Hawaii, the Coast Guard lost four men in a helicopter accident. With the support of hundreds of generous individuals, families and corporations, the Coast Guard Foundation was able to help immediately the families of these heroes get through this difficult time.
In response to this great need, an anonymous family has stepped forward and made a $100,000 challenge gift to the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund. Any gift of $100 or more will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000.

The Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor, former U. S. Supreme Court Justice, visted the United States Coast Guard Academy from April 8-10, 2009 as the Fifteenth Coast Guard Foundation Hedrick Fellow. While at the Academy, Justice O’Connor attended a dinner in her honor, participated in cadet-led academic seminars, and reviewed the Corps of Cadets. Justice O’Connor delivered her Coast Guard Foundation Hedrick Fellowship Address to the Academy community on Thursday April 9, 2009.

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, and a partner of the National Coast Guard Museum Association, announced today the appointment of Jerry Ostermiller as the president of the National Coast Guard Museum. An accomplished museum administrator for over 25 years, Mr. Ostermiller will establish museum programming, develop internal infrastructure and lead capital campaign fund raising efforts for the construction of the country’s newest national museum in New London, Connecticut.
